Operations Overview
Producer of professional growing media, specialty compost, landscaping soil, and bedding mulch

Raw Materials
Some of our raw materials include pine bark, rice hulls and sphagnum peat moss. These materials are sourced and delivered to Renewed Earth. Materials are transported by barge and trucks. For example our southern yellow pine is barged up the Mississippi to the Great Lakes area while bulk trucks bring in southern pine from docks and also direct ship red pine bark and hardwood bark from mills in Michigan.

Processing
Raw materials may need to be ground or mixed with other products to begin the composting process. Course pine bark is run through the tub grinder to reduce the size of its original state. Another material process includes making Soilife Compost, which is a mixture of short paper fiber (biosolids) and wood shavings.

Composting
Some of the products received need to be composted before they are blended with other components in the growing media production process. To facilitate the composting process, products are blended and turned with the Scarab Windrow Turner or by front end loaders. The composting process produces beneficial bacteria and other beneficial micro organisms which promote healthy plants.

Sizing and Screening
Before materials are ready to be used as components in mixes or as a finished product, they are screened to produce a consistently sized product. The portable Powerscreen and Erin Starscreen remove particles larger than a given size, while the Morbark Chip Screen is able to produce a screened product within a given size range.

Blending
Many of the products produced are used as components in finished products including our professional growing media. The materials are delivered to the blending facility, mixed with fertilizer and other components to produce specific blends for the nursery and greenhouse industries. The components can be blended using a computer controlled, continuous flow blending line.

Delivery
Once an order has been placed, a delivery day is determined and the product is scheduled for production. The finished product is then delivered to the nursery, stockyard or job site. A variety of trucking options are available including the Renewed Earth super trains and walking floor trailers.
